The club
The Liverpool Football Club was founded on March 15, 1892 after a financial disagreement between the management of the club Everton and the landowner to Anfield used previously by the club. Everton left Anfield to Goodison Park, while Liverpool FC and replaces it makes its debut in the championship Lancashire. Liverpool FC is admitted to the championship in England by the League in 1893, adopts a holding red and white, and won her first title in 1901.
The greatness of Liverpool FC merges with the arrival of his manager Bill Shankly in 1959, deciding that players will be dressed all in red (shirt, shorts and socks) to impress the opponent. With Shankly, the club found the 1st division and won many national titles. Liverpool began to make a name in Europe and finally won its first UEFA Cup in 1973.
Under the direction of Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan Liverpool will forge a track legend, including four winning success Clubs Champions Cup between 1977 and 1984. During the 1985 finals contested by Liverpool and Juventus Michel Platini takes place on the tragedy of Heysel, leading to the death of thirty-nine supporters. The folly of hooligans will make the English clubs banned from Europe for five years. The Liverpool FC should be deviated from European competitions for a decade, the penalty was later reduced to six years.
As a manager, Kenny Dalglish gives the club its last major success on the national scene, but Liverpool is once again struck by tragedy in 1989, this time at Hillsborough, where 96 fans died (see tragedy at Hillsborough). His successor Graeme Souness and Roy Evans can not compete with Manchester United, which distinguishes itself in England and Europe.
Backed for a short period by Roy Evans, Gérard Houllier was then appointed manager of the club and under his direction the Reds have an incredible grand slam in 2001 by winning five trophies. To crown it all, Michael Owen wins the Golden Ball. But Liverpool still can not compete with Manchester and Arsenal in the league. Victim of a heart on October 13, 2001 during a match against Leeds United, Gérard Houllier must undergo a serious operation to open heart and put in brackets his duties at Liverpool. It makes a triumphant return to Anfield a few months later, while the Reds complete their championship to a conclusive second place. But despite a new victory in the League Cup in 2003, the love story between Houllier and Liverpool began to come to an end. Leaders and supporters accuse him increasingly erratic performance of the team, and after the 2003-2004 season, Houllier's contract was not renewed. He is replaced in 2004 by former Valencia coach Rafael Benítez, and after the 2004-2005 season Liverpool won its fifth Champions League in shots on goal to face AC Milan, after being led 3 to 0 to half-time.
In October 2006, after a countdown-to-five months, a vote attended by 110 000 people, means Kenny Dalglish as the player with the most marked the Kop, before Steven Gerrard, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and John Barnes .
On 6 February 2007, George N. Gillett Jr is acquiring club in the company of billionaire Tom Hicks.
On 1 May 2007, Liverpool qualifies for the finals of the Champions League by beating Chelsea in shots on goal. In this final Champions League Liverpool bows on the score 2 goals to 1, facing his rival, AC Milan.
